Short answerMembers trust an out-of-work list when the referral rules are written down and applied the same way every time, certifications are current, every call and refusal is recorded, and members can see their own position without phoning the hall.
Write the rules down, then apply them every time
Books, priority groups, short calls and refusals: every hall has its own rules. The fairness comes from applying them consistently. When the system ranks the list by your rules, dispatchers spend their time on exceptions, not arithmetic.
Keep certifications current
A contractor asking for certified workers needs certified workers. Link training records to dispatch so that:
- Only members with the required, current certifications are offered the call.
- Members see what is about to expire and can book a class.
- Apprentice hours and placements stay on one record.
Record everything, show members their place
Every request, call, acceptance and refusal belongs on the record. When members can check their position and history themselves, the phone rings less and disputes are easier to resolve.
